چکیده

Monochromatic limb-darkening and monochromatic radii predicted by the non-Mira M giant models of Bessell et al. (1989a, 1991) with 3500 K ≥ Teff ≥ 2500 K were computed for selected typical bandpasses used in interferometric and lunar occultation work. Problems of defining and measuring radii of extended-photosphere stars and the relationship between different assumptions on limb-darkening and ’measured’ radii are discussed. Fits of simple uniform disk (UD), fully darkened disk (FDD) and Gaussian limb-darkening curves to the visibilities predicted by the non-Mira M giant models were performed. These fits show that the FDD curve is often a surprisingly good approximation to the model-predicted limb-darkening shape.

Limb-darkening and radii of M-type Mira models

Monochromatic limb-darkening and monochromatic radii predicted by the M-type Mira models of Bessell et al. (1996) and by new models described in Sect. 2 were computed for selected typical bandpasses used in interferometric and lunar occultation work. The new self-excited pulsation model series have periods and luminosities similar to o Ceti and R Leonis and comprise both fundamental (1 M , 1.2 ...

Wavelength dependence of angular diameters of M giants: an observational perspective

We discuss the wavelength dependence of angular diameters of M giants from an observational perspective. Observers cannot directly measure an optical-depth radius for a star, despite this being a common theoretical definition. Instead, they can use an interferometer to measure the square of the fringe visibility. We present new plots of the wavelength-dependent centre-tolimb variation (CLV) of ...

A homogeneous temperature calibration for K and M giants with an extension to the coolest stars

In this paper we present a new estimate of the effective temperatures of 32 giant stars in the spectral range K0 to M10. The sample includes also 4 Mira stars. The temperatures are based on a homogeneous set of angular diameters obtained by our group by the technique of lunar occultations, and using a photometric and spectroscopic coverage with a combination of original measurements and literat...

Eclipsing binaries observed with the WIRE satellite . II . β Aurigae and non - linear limb darkening in light curves ⋆

Aims. We present the most precise light curve ever obtained of a detached eclipsing binary star and use it investigate the inclusion of non-linear limb darkening laws in light curve models of eclipsing binaries. This light curve, of the bright eclipsing system β Aurigae, was obtained using the star tracker aboard the  satellite and contains 30 000 datapoints with a point-to-point scatter of...

LINEAR PULSATION CHARACTERISTICS OF MIRA VARIABLE STARS

The linear adiabatic pulsation-periods of Mira variable stars have been derived. Approximately 2701[1]models were calculated for M = 0.7 MΘ to 2 MΘ stars with radii from 180 RΘ to 340 RΘ and luminosities from 2800 LΘ to 10,000 LΘ. The chemical composition of all models is (X,Z) = (0.7,0.02). From the result of this study, linear relations on Luminosity-Period-Mass relationship and luminosity-pe...
